Where it lacks in point collection and distance it gains in time and coverage.

3D Scanning technology continues to develop into new and more inventive ways. Duncan-Parnell is always looking to stay informed and current with new 3D Scanning Technology. With that being said, we are introducing a new 3D Scanner to our Rental lineup, the Zeb-Revo by GeoSLAM. The Geospatial mobile mapping unit uses SLAM or Simultaneous Localization and Mapping algorithms to concurrently map and navigate through unknown environments. The SLAM algorithms utilize data collected from Lidar sensors to an estimated location of the unit and a mapping of the environment it sees. So, what does all this really mean? Well, let’s break it down. The scanner itself is at the lower end of the spectrum when compared to the static scanners such as the Trimble TX8 and the Faro X330. See below for the Zeb-Revo specs:

So, from a standpoint of the static scanners, the Trimble TX8 captures 1,000,000 points per second with a maximum range of 120-340 Meters. The Faro X330 captures, around 600,000 points per second with a maximum range of 330 Meters. As you can see the Zeb-Revo falls well short of points collected and range when compared to the static scanners. However, point capture and distance are not what the Zeb-Revo is all about. Where is lacks in point collection and distance it gains in time and coverage. With the Zeb-Revo scanner you can easily walk a 10,000 square foot building with a second floor in about 15 minutes, process the data collected in about the same time, export to Autodesk ReCap and into Autodesk Revit and/or Autodesk AutoCAD in less than an hours’ time.

It’s a different machine for a different kind of job. The Zeb-Revo can be used for that initial scan of an up-fit with existing conditions. It’s perfect for that existing building that has little to no drawings available. With 3/4 “ to 1” accuracy you will have a working point cloud in your Revit model with accurate measurements in less than an hours’ time. Compared to the amount of time you will spend on and back on a job site with a laser pointer taking

hand measurements, the Geo-Slam Zeb-Revo is a no-brainer. Call and setup a demo today and see this scanner in person. You will realize what a time and money saver it really is.
